NARS Night Breed Eyeshadow

The Glossover

Where to Buy: NARS, $23

NARS Night Breed Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “black with silver glitter” and that is an apt description. It has a matte, black base with silver micro-glitter strewn through the color. The way it’s placed makes it noticeable but not shimmery or over-the-top. It’s a dark black, though not quite the most intense black, but it certainly does not venture near soft blacks. Lancome The New Black is more intense Coach Outlet, but it also has more silver flecks, and even the base has more of a satiny look in comparison.

NARS Eyeshadows are described as “ultra pigmented, long-wearing, [and] crease-resistant” that can be applied wet or dry. I get around eight hours of wear before I notice subtle creasing, so I would still wear an eyeshadow primer if I wanted all-day wear. The packaging is slim and compact with matte black rubberized packaging that absorbs impact better than a harder plastic. There is a mirror inside the compact as well.

NARS Night Breed Eyeshadow

The formula of Night Breed is nice, but the flecks of micro-glitter don’t always show up on the lid.  If you want the glitter to appear, make sure to pat on the product and use a stiffer brush, because fluffy brushes tend to catch the glitter between bristles rather than depositing them on the lid.  Night Breed has a soft, smooth texture that’s silky and easy to blend.  There is very little chalkiness and drag with this shade, which can be issues for matte textures.

Revlon Strawberry Shortcake ColorBurst Lip Butter

Revlon Strawberry Shortcake ColorBurst Lip Butter

Where to Buy: Drugstore.com, $7.49

It has a slightly milky/creamy texture so you may see lines if you press your lips together. The color is rather opaque, even though it’s supposed to be sheer to medium in regards to color coverage. For those who were interested in the Lip Butter range for sheerer color Coach Factory Outlet Online, this shade may not be the right pick for you. If you very lightly tap it on and add a little balm, you may be able to get the sheer color you’re looking for. The formula is unscented.

Revlon Strawberry Shortcake ColorBurst Lip Butter ($7.49 for 0.09 oz.) is a blue-based cotton candy pink with silvery-white shimmer. MAC Enchantee is lighter and less blue-based. MAC Dress It Up is slightly less blue-based. MAC Behave Yourself is just a tinge pinker. MAC All Styled Up is similar but doesn’t have shimmer.

It has a very creamy consistency that makes it easy to apply, because it glides right on, but there’s a fair amount of slip. The biggest downside to having as much slip as this product is that it does have a tendency to wear off easily (this shade lasted two and a half hours on me), but it is a more moisturizing formula.  With lighter colors like this, the added slip can make it more difficult to get an even layer of color, because it tends to bunch up on itself or streak, which is why you’ll see a point deduction in the texture category.

MAC Craving Lipstick Coach Outlet ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “burst of plum” and has an amplified creme finish. It’s a plummy pink with a subtle shine that applies opaque with very little product needed.

Maybelline Bit of Berry is similar–less plum. Hourglass Nocturnal is redder. Guerlain Bee is darker but still similar in overall color.

The amplified creme finish is designed to deliver opaque color coverage with a creamy texture and shiny finish. MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented but taste-free. Amplified cremes typically last four hours when I wear them, as they are more opaque and have a tendency to cling to lips (but are not drying).

Gunmetal

  • Graffiti is a bright, grassy green with subtle cool undertones and a frosted, metallic sheen. This shade has such lovely color payoff. This is a deluxe eyeshadow.
  • Gunmetal is a darkened blue-based gray with a silver shimmer and sheen. Inglot #451 is similar but slightly darker–has more of a black base.
  • Hot Pants is a cotton candy pink with a white, metallic sheen. MAC Swish is a bit darker but similar, while Make Up For Ever #303 is lighter.
  • Maui Wowie is an antique gold with a metallic finish and splattered with chunky bits of antique gold glitter. The glitter kills this shade–I LOVE the color of Maui Wowie, but it suffers from awful fall out of the chunky glitter. Bare Escentuals Gold Medal comes rather close, though it seems a little cooler toned.
  • Minx is a green-based teal with chunky teal glitter (like Maui Wowie). It’s actually a bit sheer, which is a surprise for a UD shadow. Make Up For Ever #168 is more pigmented and perhaps a little greener, but it seems similar.
  • Purple Haze is a brightened, medium-dark red-based purple with a matte finish. Inglot’s #334 is the most similar from what I can tell (and I suspect MAC’s Vibrant Grape is similar, too, but it’s not up in the gallery yet!), but it is clearly less red-based.
  • Revolver is a soft gray with a matte finish. It’s a really easy-to-wear gray because of how light it is, so it’s not dominating at all.
  • Ruthless is a champagne beige with a hint of gold shimmer. This is a deluxe eyeshadow. MAC Retrospeck is a little darker and more golden toned. theBalm Devilish Danielle seems brighter but very similar. Becca Quartz is a touch darker but also similar.
  • Scratch is a soft, peach-orange with a golden sheen. This is a deluxe eyeshadow.
  • Zero is a medium-dark black with multi-colored shimmer. I actually found Zero to be a little rough in texture–not nearly as smooth as other deluxe eyeshadows. It is similar to theBalm Guilty Gwen, which has a better texture.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Swatches (Part 3)

Urban Decay Eyeshadows are typically very pigmented, smooth, and blendable.  The only shades to watch for are any that have the word “glitter” or “sparkle” in the description, because they tend to have a micro-glitter that just doesn’t bind with the color base, which means it either disappears between brush and lid (best case scenario) or you end up with a sparkly under eye (worst case scenario). Their matte finishes are soft and finely milled, but a note on application, these are so blendable that it’s easy to overdo it.

Urban Decay has three types of eyeshadows–their regular eyeshadows (0.05 oz.), deluxe eyeshadows (0.09 oz.), and matte eyeshadows (0.05 oz.). Both the regular and matte eyeshadows are $17 a pop, while deluxe eyeshadows are $18, but they also contain nearly twice as much product. I would say the major difference between deluxe and regular eyeshadows is that these tend to be a little softer, less bound together, and perhaps a little more pigmented. Urban Decay says these have more intensity than the regular eyeshadows, but I haven’t had too many issues with pigmentation in their regular line.

Rick Santorum’s Sweater Vests Have Nothing on Barbie

A spokesperson from Mattel said, “We hope that Barbie will inspire girls to be leaders—be it in their schools, classrooms, or communities—with the President doll.” If nothing else, it will inspire them to buy wedges instead of stilettos.

It’s about time someone figured out how to make the woman stand up without the help of a 5-year-old, or a doll stand coach outlet online, so hooray for Benz for making that happen.  As for the presidential thing, Barbie felt like the 2012 campaign needed a strong female candidate.  So she’s hitting the road in her glam-paign mobile coach outlet online, backed by The White House Project (a real thing that helps to empower women) hoping to win the B Party nomination.

A press release landed in our inbox late last night: “I’m reaching out with the news that Barbie has just announced that she is running for President in 2012, and will be dressed by designer Chris Benz coach outlet online!  With the help of Chris’ pink wedge heels coach outlet online, Barbie is standing on her own for the very first time.”

Apple Perfume Exists Now

In the Financial Times, Vanessa Friedman writes that the secret to the success of Thierry Mugler’s Angel fragrance is the essence of cotton candy at its core—seriously.  Apparently it’s the nostalgia that attracts legions of women to a particular perfume.  Whether Apple, as in the computer company, has been around long enough to inspire nostalgia is arguable, but Friedman writes that an Australian art collective called Greatest Hits has commissioned a scent inspired by the iconic brand.

Greatest Hits asked Air Aroma coach outlet, a New York-based scent manufacturer coach outlet, to whip up “the scent of an Apple product being opened for the first time.”   The perfume, which is part of an exhibition they’re currently staging in Melbourne coach outlet, “encompasses the smell of the plastic wrap covering the box coach outlet, printed ink on the cardboard, the smell of paper and plastic components within the box and of course the aluminum laptop which has come straight from the factory where it was assembled in China.”

Seth Rogen as ‘The Dude’ Gives Audience Contact High

You can start Twitter-stalking Reitman and Film Independent starting in October to get the next Live Read casting and ticket information.

Though no one ever wants to see Hollywood remake classic films coach outlet online, Reitman’s Live Read series has become the hottest ticket for Film Independent’s LACMA program—and for good reason.  Since the Live Read’s inception last October, the Thank You for Smoking and Juno director has attracted A-list talent—Natalie Portman, Olivia Wilde, Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell, Mindy Kaling—to perform as they are rarely seen: live!

Reitman has also resurrected beloved films—including The Breakfast Club, The Apartment, Shampoo (getting Kate Hudson to play the role her mother, Goldie Hawn, originated), The Princess Bride, and Reservoir Dogs—for the occasion.  Elvis Mitchell, Film Independent’s film curator, said of the selection: “What we’ve been trying to do with these scripts is to pick movies that mean something to all of us, that we have the most connection to, movies that really transformed the face of the medium. Every one of these that we’ve chosen for the Live Read has done that.”

Many clamored to get a piece of last night’s final installment of the series—also coinciding with the fourteen-year anniversary of The Big Lebowski’s theatrical release—however Reitman announced that the series will go on and continue in the fall.  Explaining the hiatus, he said, “I’ve got this f-cking day job that I’ve got to go do this summer, but after I shoot my next film, I promise I will be back here to do more.”

Seth Rogen fell prey to typecasting last night at Jason Reitman’s final Live Read event coach outlet online, where he reprised Jeff Bridges’s original turn as The Dude in The Big Lebowski.  While it seems cheeky to have one stoner icon play another, that wasn’t the only funny business from last night’s event.  Amid the obligatory jokes about White Russians and remembrances of the Coen brothers’ comically-veiled philosophical lines like “The Dude abides,” there seemed a waft of something skunky in the theater air.

Each Live Read is performed once and not recorded.  Thus, they teeter on being a rare, modern piece of Americana that few get to see—making the sold-out shows (even prior to casting announcements) and lines around The Los Angeles County Museum of Art a staple for each event.

Perhaps a Good Samaritan was lighting the mood or perhaps it was a testament to how well Rogen and his co-stars—Christina Hendricks (as Maude) coach outlet online, Rainn Wilson (as Walter), Hank Azaria (as Donny), Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander (as Lebowski) coach outlet online, and Sam Elliott, with his sweet Southern drawl—recreated the world and misfortunes of Jeffrey Lebowski.
